NEW DELHI: An alleged gangster said to be involved in a murder-cum-robbery case reported from North Delhi on July 16 has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. Acting on a tip-off, a Special Cell team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivendra Kant Tiwari had laid a trap behind Escorts Hospital on Wednesday. The suspects appeared on the scene on a motorcycle around 10 p.m. When the police team signalled them to stop, they allegedly tried to flee by firing at the policemen. However, the police team returned the fire and managed to catch one of the two suspects. The other suspect managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The police claim to have recovered a Chinese pistol of .30-bore along with three live cartridges from the suspect, later identified as Akram Ali. During interrogation, Akram allegedly confessed to having been involved in a murder-cum-robbery reported from Kotwali in North Delhi. Efforts are now on to trace and arrest the absconding associates of the accused.
