KHAMMAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has staked claim for the post of the Khammam District Cooperative Central Bank chairman and appealed to the principal political parties to support its candidate. Addressing a news conference here, Thammineni Veerabhadram, MLA and central committee member of the party, said that the party would field its candidate for the post.He said it would be the turn of the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to extend support to the party candidate. The party was already in contact with the Congress and the TDP leaders on the issue. The TDP had enjoyed the DCCB chief post for nearly two decades with the support of the CPI(M). The CPI had been supporting the Congress as an ally in many ways. The party candidate would be decided and announced soon, he said. Mr. Veerabhadram said that the party would organise a `padayatra' from Khammam to Hyderabad if the Government failed to take up the work on the Dummugudem lift scheme within a month. He questioned the delay in taking up the project.
