Plea to set up more cotton purchase centres

Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM: All-India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy has requested the CCI to open seven more cotton purchase centres in Khammam district.

He visited the cotton market yard and interacted with cotton growers on Friday. Later addressing the farmers, he assured them of all support from the party to ensure them a fair deal.

The farmers complained to him that they were forced to sell the cotton for a song. The arrivals were on the increase, but the rates offered were discouraging. Some farmers from Jonnavaram, Chilukodu, Ammapalem and Jaggaiahpet sought the intervention of the Congress leaders on the issue.Mr. Sudhakar Reddy said he had spoken to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Collector Rajendra Narendra Nimje and explained to them the market conditions.
