PATHANAMTHITTA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the newly constructed blocks of the Pathanamthitta General Hospital at a simple function to be held at the hospital premises on Saturday. According to K.K. Nair, MLA, the new blocks would have 237 beds and two modern operation theatres. The ground floor of the one block would house the seasonal special ward for Sabarimala pilgrims, Mr. Nair said. He said the tele-medicine system at the General Hospital would also be shifted to the new block. The MLA said that the inaugural function has been made simple in the backdrop of the seven-day State mourning following the death of the former President K.R. Narayanan. The Government wanted to inaugurate the new hospital blocks on Saturday itself in view of the forthcoming Sabarimala pilgrim season that begins on November 16. The MLA said that the Government had also sanctioned 45 new posts for the General Hospital. Health Minister K.K. Ramachandran will deliver the keynote address on the occasion. Pathanamthitta district panchayat president A. Santhakumari, District Collector B. Mohanan, municipal chairperson Amrutham Gokulan and Director of Health Services S. Mahilamony will also address the function.
