Staff Reporter

A 35-year-old man was bitten by the snake

TAMBARAM: A 35-year-old man was hospitalised after he was bitten by a Russell's Viper at Perumbakkam village near Tambaram on Friday.

Aruldass, a resident of Kamarajar Street was walking near the bank of the Perumbakkam lake when the snake bit him.

He tried to push it away, only to be bitten thrice more on his hands and legs.

Neighbours, when told of the incident, came to the spot and found the reptile immobile as it had apparently consumed a prey just then.

K. Venkatesan, the Village Administrative Officer, informed the Pallikaranai police station and the Forest Department.

Initially, the residents told the VAO and the panchayat officials that they had trapped a huge python.

About two hours later, officials from the Forest Department arrived at the spot and took away the viper.

Aruldass developed swellings on his arms and was taken to the Chrompet Government Hospital and later referred to the Government General Hospital in Chennai.

He is said to be out of danger.
