New Chief Justice sworn in

Ajit Prakash Shah is 22nd Chief Justice of the Madras High Court after Independence

WELCOME TO TAMIL NADU: The newly-appointed Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Ajit Prakash Shah, being greeted by the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, in Chennai on Saturday. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa looks on.

CHENNAI: Justice Ajit Prakash Shah, who was Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, was sworn in Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on Saturday.

He is the 22nd Chief Justice of the Madras High Court after Independence.

Governor Surjit Singh Barnala administered the oath office to Mr. Shah at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan. Chief Secretary N.Narayanan read out the warrant of appointment.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa presented a bouquet to Mr. Shah.

Ministers, High Court Judges, government officials, Advocate-General N.R.Chandran, Members of the Bar Council and advocates' associations functionaries were present.
