"Repair approach road"

TIRUCHI : Corporation Commissioner Harmander Singh has instructed the Highways Department to repair the approach roads along the Palakkarai Road Overbridge currently under construction. Mr. Singh, who inspected the progress of the construction work, asked the officials to fill up the potholes that dot the approach roads.

Applications invited

The District Cooperative Union has invited applications from wards of employees of the Department of Cooperatives who have secured high marks in the Standard X and Standard XII March 2005 examinations for the award of special prizes during the Cooperative Week celebrations to be held on November 20.

Wards of Cooperative employees who have secured over 450 marks in standard X and over 1000 marks in standard XII examinations were eligible to apply for the prizes. Applications with attested copies of the mark sheets should be submitted at the Union office in Tiruchi on or before November 14, according to a release.

The Union has also planned to organise poetry and essay writing contests in connection with the Cooperative Week celebrations.

Entries should be submitted at the Union office before November 14.

Training programme

A 12-day residential training programme on computer operations for a select group of women

self-help group members began at Kurinji College of Engineering and Technology at Manapparai in the district on Saturday.

A total number of 25 SHG members would be imparted training in basic computer operations, internet browsing, MS-office etc.

The participants belong to the self-help groups, which had been formed by the Mahalir Thittam.

The Mahalir Thittam Project Officer, Tiruchi, G. Jeyalakshmi, said that the training was aimed at building the skills of the group members.

It had been planned to help the participants in establishing information kiosks with financial assistance from the state government, she added. The college principal, Dr. J. Dwakaran welcomed the gathering, a release issued here on Friday said.

Meeting

The Lions Regional Meet — Region III of the Lions District 324 A2 will be held in the city on November 20. The event will witness implementation of social welfare schemes including distribution of tri-cycles to the physically challenged, sewing machines to destitutes and widows etc. These would be given only to those who were below poverty line.

Those in need of assistance could submit applications to Lions Region Chairperson P. Panneerselvam, A-17, Rajarajan Nagar, Tiruchi. — 21 before November 15.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 120.01 feet on Saturday. The inflow was 13,210 cusecs and the discharge 11,980 cusecs.
