THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Development Front, a non-governmental organisation, is providing a platform for citizens to voice their aspirations in the form of a letter-writing competition, called "To my MP... ," according to a press release.
The letters, addressed to the MP to be elected in Friday's byelection, should focus on the development plans for the capital and issues facing the city. They can also suggest ideas or action plans for development.
The letters could refer to some of the major projects on the anvil, such as the development of the international airport; information-technology corridor; Vizhinjam container terminal; widening of National Highway 47 to four lanes; the Kollam-Kovalam highway; new educational and research institutions molecular research centre, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, National Institute of Fashion Technology, and biotechnology and nanotechnology centres; habitat centre; Akkulam international convention centre; High Court Bench; and Kovalam area development.
The essays will be evaluated by a panel of eminent persons. The best letter will be given a cash award of Rs. 5,000, and the second best Rs. 2,500. Consolation prizes will be given to 10 entries. For details, call 0471-557 0607.
