Sainik guest house to come up at Tirumala

To be built at a cost of Rs. 85 lakhs

TIRUPATI: Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara will soon boast of a well-furnished `Sainik guest house' exclusively for the use of the defence personnel.

According to Defence sources, the three-storey guest house would be built at a cost of Rs. 85 lakhs on a site being provided on lease to the Indian Army by the TTD in the Sankumitta area.

Foundation stone

Foundation stone for the building will be laid on Monday at the site by Paramjit Singh General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern India, headquartered at Chennai.

Important among the dignitaries who will take part in the foundation laying ceremony would be former Chief of the Army Staff General Padmanabhan.

Sources said that it would be the first ever Sainik Bhavan to come up in any south Indian pilgrim city.

It is being constructed as a major welfare programme for the defence personnel with the help of the Army Welfare Fund. The building is expected to be ready by December, 2006.
