YSR pays tributes to Nehru

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of his birth anniversary.

In a message, he described Nehru as the architect of modern India who wished the fruits of progress in the core sectors reach the common man. He praised the former premier for initiating community development programmes at grass-root level and laid the foundation for several projects, including irrigation, industries and science and technology. - Special Correspondent

Religious fervour marks `kaisika dwadasi'

TIRUMALA : `Kaisika dwadasi' was observed at the temple of Lord Venkateswara with religious fervour on Sunday. The `utsava deity' of Lord Ugra Srinivasa, who is brought out of the temple once a year, was taken around the mada streets.

Gang rape charge against naxals

ADILABAD : Was the tribal woman, who was killed on Friday night by Maoists branding her as a covert, gang raped before she was killed? An autopsy done at the Asifabad hospital on Sunday reportedly revealed it.

At a press conference here, Superintendent of Police Kripanand Tripathi Ujela said the charges relevant to gang rape were being added to those of murder after the findings of the autopsy. - Staff Reporter

SCR to introduce new enquiry system

HYDERABAD : The South Central Railway will introduce a `Central integrated enquiry system' with phone No.139 from November 16.

According to a press release, the travelling public could obtain information relating to PNR status, accommodation availability, departure/arrival timings and train fares over the new number.

The enquiry numbers 131, 135, 1331, 1332 and 1333 will be withdrawn after the operation of the new system. - Special Correspondent

Minimum wages demanded

HYDERABAD : The Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Labour Union has demanded implementation of minimum wages fixed by the Centre for the works under the Employment Guarantee Scheme.

K. Krishnamurthy, president, and B. Venkat, general secretary, in a memorandum to Urban Development Minister D. Srinivas, wanted the Government to launch an awareness campaign on minimum wages. - Special Correspondent

Filling of judicial officer posts urged

HYDERABAD: The State committee of the Indian Association of Lawyers has demanded filling of judicial officer posts to avoid inconvenience to litigant public and slow down of court work. It has urged the Centre to provide funds for expeditious working of fast-track courts.

C. Padmanabha Reddy, senior advocate of the High Court, who heads the committee, chaired the meeting. It was addressed by advocates from different parts of the State. - Special Correspondent

Weaver ends life

KARIMNAGAR : M. Bhaskar, a powerloom weaver, committed suicide at Gandhinagar of Sircilla town on Saturday night. Unemployment following closure of looms is said to be the cause of his suicide. He is survived by wife and two children. - Staff Reporter

NABARD funds to be sought

HYDERABAD: State Government will seek funds from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for the Remote and Interior Areas Development (RIAD) programme.

When NABARD chairperson Ranjana Kumar calls on Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the latter will make a detailed presentation on RIAD and seek additional funds. - Staff Reporter

Voter list revision

MADANAPALLE : The revision of voters' list starting from November 5 will take place up to December 4. Claims in the prescribed forms 6, 7, 8 and 8A to include or to delete names of the deceased or any change may be submitted, said the Sub-Collector in a press note. This will apply to Assembly constituencies in Madanapalle division, Madanapalle, Palamaner, Punganur, Thamballapalle, Kuppam and Piler. They can be submitted at the designated locations on Government holidays at Government schools, at delivery post offices and at Sub-Collector's office. For further particulars phone 08571/231181. MADANAPALLE: K. Ramesh Reddy, working as contract lecturer in Sudharam Government College was awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy in statistics by Sri Venkateswara University for his research work. Correspondent

Two killed in road accident

Nellore: Two persons were killed and four sustained injuries when an RTC bus collided with an autorickshaw on the national highway of Dagadarthi mandal, on Sunday. While one person died on the spot another succumbed on way to the hospital. The autorickshaw driver, escaped from the scene and police are enquiring. - Staff Reporter
