K.R. Narayanan's ashes to reach capital today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The urn containing the ashes of the former President K.R. Narayanan, who died in New Delhi on Wednesday, will reach here on Monday. The urn will be kept in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam on Monday for the public to pay their homage to the departed leader. It will be taken to his birthplace, Uzhavoor, in Kottayam district, on Tuesday.

Revenue Minister K.M. Mani and Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled and Backward Communities A.P. Anil Kumar will receive the urn in New Delhi and bring it to Thiruvananthapuram, an official press release said. Narayanan's daughter Amrita Narayanan and former private secretary Jayarajan too will arrive here by the same flight, at 12.40 p.m. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will receive the urn at the airport. After a guard of honour by the Indian Army, the urn will be kept at the Indian Air Force's technical area at the airport for the Ministers and elected representatives of the people to pay their respects.The urn will be then taken to the Durbar Hall in the Secretariat.
