CHENNAI: The smiles were already in place at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday at the flag-off of the Chennai leg of the three-city second annual "Mile for a Smile Rally". In the case of the children from Balavidyalaya, they were wide, toothless grins. Apex Foundation, the social service wing of Apex CoVantage, a provider of global BPO services, donated Rs. 1.2 crores to community welfare organisations across India. At the Chennai rally, the city-based Balavidyalaya for hearing-impaired children received Rs. 9 lakh, Round Table Trust for the three schools it supports received Rs. 10 lakhs and Very Special Arts India (Delhi) for disabled children was given Rs. 3 lakh by chief guest D. Jayakumar, Minister for Law and IT. The rally was flagged off by actor Nanda.
Documentary
He expressed the desire to do a two-minute documentary on Apex Foundation and the organisations it assists. The idea behind the foundation is to provide financial assistance to organisations run by individuals until they are self-sustaining. The rally is also held in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
