Student caught with gold chain

Woman alerts passers-by who catch the culprit before handing him over to the police

BANGALORE: Passers-by caught a management degree student while he was allegedly fleeing with a woman's gold chain in HMT Layout on Saturday.

According to the police, Jassi was walking with her son on HMT Layout Road when Rupesh (22), riding a motorcycle, reportedly snatched the chain.

As he tried to flee, Jassi shouted and passers-by chased and caught Rupesh and handed him over to the police. The police said Rupesh, a native of Bihar, is studying MBA in a city college.

Arrested

The Subramanyapura police have arrested Manjunatha, a resident of Jaraganahalli in J.P. Nagar, in connection with the murder of Kencharaju. He was wanted in 28 criminal cases.

According to police, Manjunatha and four of accomplices had hacked Kencharaju to death in April. Of the five accused, the police have arrested Srinivasa Gowda and Arasaiah. The police are on the look out for Shiva and Mahesh. The police have recovered a knife and a van from Manjunatha.

Recovered

The Sanjay Nagar police have arrested Nagesh Rao (36) of T. Dasarahalli on the charge of stealing computer accessories. The police have recovered memory chips worth Rs. 4.5 lakhs from him. According to the police, Nagesh Rao stole the memory chips from a shop in ITI Layout on BEL Road.

Man found dead

A 38-year-old man was found dead on the railway track near Binnypet on Sunday. The Railway Police said the man was run over by a train on Saturday night. The police gave the name of the dead as Arumugam, a coolie. He had consumed alcohol, they said.

Run over

Vishwanath (19), a lorry cleaner, was killed when he was run over by a lorry in Subramanya Estate in Anekal police station limits. The police said the lorry filled with stones entered the estate and unloaded the material. While the vehicle was reversing Vishwanath was run over, the police said.

Dies of burns

A 30-year-old woman died of burns in her house in Ramachandrapura in Sriramapuram police station on Sunday.

The police said Kokila (30), the victim, doused herself with kerosene before setting herself on fire.
