Rain causes damage at port

KOCHI: The Q4 berth at the Mattancherry wharf of the Cochin Port Trust suffered damage on Sunday evening when an open consignment of salt that had absorbed water after heavy rains lashed the area became too heavy for the berth, which reportedly collapsed. The damage is estimated at several crores. — Staff Reporter

Stress on foot care

KOCHI: Minister for Fisheries and Sports Dominic Presentation inaugurated the programme organised by Indian Medical Association, Kochi branch, and Lakshmi Hospital on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. The awareness seminar provided insights into proper care of the feet of a diabetic patient. Medical experts C. Balachandran, M. Sasikumar and P. Ramakrishnan spoke about diabetes and its dangers. A seminar on insulin pumps was held for patients at Lakeshore Hospital. The patients were told how the insulin pump works and its benefits in controlling the disease. — Staff Reporter

Boys home opens today

KOCHI: The Janaseva Boys Home of the Janaseva Sisubhavan will be inaugurated on Monday by actor Suresh Gopi. Lonappan Nambadan, MP, P.J. Joy, MLA, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, actor, and others will participate. The new home can accommodate 50 boys. — Staff Reporter

Book on mathematics released

KOCHI: The former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer released a book `Encyclopaedia of Mathematics,' published by Ascend Publications, by handing over a copy to the former Vice-Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology Babu Joseph at a function at the Chinmaya Vidyalaya auditorium on Warriam Road on Sunday. — Staff Reporter
