SALEM: The district administration has issued 7,03,410 renewed family cards so far. According to a release from the Collector A. Sukumaran, the district administration distributed 7,41,058 applications for the renewal of existing family cards. A total of 7,19,258 families applied for renewal and their applications were forwarded to the State Government.
Special centres
The administration received 7,10,591 renewed cards and opened special centres to distribute the cards on Saturdays and Sundays this July. About 6.84 lakh families received cards from these centres, while 19,038 families that had failed to receive the cards through the centres got them from the taluk supply offices (TSO). The TSOs had also informed the families that were yet to receive renewed cards. However, the administration received 25,844 applications seeking corrections in their renewed family cards. As many as 2,095 cards with major mistakes were sent to the Office of the Commissioner of Public Distribution, while minor mistakes in 23,749 cards were corrected at the TSOs. The release further said that the administration had issued 2,26,901 new family cards till this March. A total of 2,67,543 applications were received seeking new family cards last June. Of these 2,31,265 applications found genuine were forwarded to the Government.
