Jaffer Sharief laments lack of development in State

Staff Correspondent

DHARWAD: The former Union Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief has said that development of the State has suffered owing to the "partisan" attitude of the Government.

Speaking at the Rajyotsava celebrations organised by Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Mr. Sharief, who was felicitated on the occasion, said those in power should think about mobilising resources and making the best use of it through proper planning, which will ensure the development of the State.

Elaborating on the role played by Indian Railways in the life of the nation, Mr. Sharief underscored the importance of gauge-conversion.

Noted poet Channaveera Kanavi dwelt upon the role played by Dharwad in the struggle for the unification of the State.

Vinay Kulkarni, MLA, also spoke.

Presiding over the function, Patil Puttappa, journalist, said development remains an elusive goal even after five decades after the unification of the State.
