Hospital in a shambles

Staff Correspondent

MP seeks steps to improve conditions

DHARWAD: Pralhad Joshi, MP, has expressed concern over the condition of the district hospital here and urged the State Government to take action in this regard.

Mr. Joshi, who paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Tuesday in the wake of complaints about the functioning of the hospital, was surprised to see that 90 per cent of the essential drugs were not available there.

When enquired, District Surgeon Nadagowda was unable to give a satisfactory answer. She told the MP that a requisition was sent for supply of medicines in March. The hospital is planning to purchase the medicines from local suppliers, she added.

The MP took the District Surgeon to task for the poor facilities at the hospital and also over the complaints from patients about doctors demanding money for treating them. The hospital staff and the doctors on duty also failed to explain the reasons for the sorry state of affairs at the hospital.

Mr. Joshi said he will request the State Government to take action to improve the hospital. Bharati Patil, Leader of the Opposition in the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, and Jayaram Shetty, BJP City unit secretary, accompanied the MP during his visit to the hospital.
