PULLING THEM DOWN: An earthmover clearing encroachments at Janata Bazaar in Hubli on Tuesday.
HUBLI: The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has warned people against rebuilding structures which were pulled down by the corporation citing encroachment or for violating building bylaws. P. Manivannan, HDMC Commissioner, has issued the warning in the wake of several people rebuilding structures after they were pulled down by the corporation. He said the action is highly objectionable and those engaged in such activities will be identified and police cases will be booked against them for violating rules. Besides, the HDMC will pull down structures that encroach upon the corporation property, and the cost of clearing such encroachments will be recovered from the people responsible for it, he warned in a press release. The Commissioner asked people who are trying to rebuild the demolished structure to pull them down at their own cost in three days.
Clarification
If any building owner or shopkeeper wants clarification regarding reconstruction, he/she can contact the concerned Chief Zonal Officer of the area and get his/her doubts cleared, he said. He also requested people to contact the corporation if they come across instances where people are rebuilding the demolished portion. They can call the corporation control room at Ph: 2213888 and their identity will be kept confidential, he said. The HDMC embarked on "Operation Footpath" in a phased manner to clear encroachments on corporation property to ensure the smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles. The corporation officials also marked the "building line" and asked building owners and shopkeepers to ensure that the structures are within the line.
Guidelines
The HDMC also published in newspapers guidelines for reconstruction. But of late, several building owners have started reconstructing the demolished portion beyond the building line, and the same has been brought to the notice of the corporation authorities by some people.
