PUDUKOTTAI: Family welfare awareness camps will be conducted at 296 places in the district from November 18 to December 3 under the joint auspices of the Health Department and Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society. People between ages 15 and 49 will undergo a complete check-up at the camp and get free treatment. The camps will focus on reproductive healthcare. In a press release issued here on Tuesday, the Collector, P. Sonai, said the camps would be held at 52 primary health centres and 241 health sub-centres besides three other places within the municipal limits. The field staff attached to the Health Department, Anganwadi workers, volunteers of non-governmental organisations and members of women self-help groups would conduct a door-to-door survey to identify the targeted persons and issue a card to each of them. The card would specify the venue of the camp. Those identified should bring the card to get treated at the camp. The persons should be accompanied by their spouses, the release added. The camps would be open between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Adequate drugs were being despatched to the respective primary health centres. Special teams of male and female doctors were formed to screen male and female patients respectively. Persons in need of special treatment would be referred to the nearest taluk hospital or the government headquarters hospital, the release said.
