Belgaum: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), which aspires to become a world-renowned institution in line with its Vision 2020 document, has taken a number of initiatives with assistance from Germany. The initiatives follow the visit of Vice-Chancellor K. Balaveera Reddy, Special Officer K. Venkatesh, and officials of Diamant India and Diamant Metallplastic of Germany to companies in that country. They were invited by Diamant Metallplastic and Diamant Triumph India to take up projects along with German universities and industries under the Indo-German Institute of Technology programme. The visitors had discussions with representatives of FESTO, Diamant Metallplastic, Vemac, and D.S. Technologies, besides academic institutions. Dr. Reddy said the VTU will explore the possibility of setting up a pneumatics and hydraulics laboratory and training centre of international standards along with FESTO.
