Letters to the Editor
Kudos to the Sri Lankan Government for conferring the "Sri Lanka Ratna," the nation's highest honour for non-nationals, on N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, for his "outstanding, professional contribution towards journalism." As Editor-in-Chief, he ensured that the newspaper gave a true and non-partisan account of the day-to-day State, national and international events.
R.M. Manoharan,
* * * Congratulations to Mr. Ram on being conferred the award that is given for "exceptionally outstanding and most distinguished service to Sri Lanka in particular and\or humanity in general."
Jake George Ignatius,
* * * It is a fitting tribute to a man who is fearless and frank and makes no compromise in his profession.
V. Mahalingam,
* * * Mr. Ram deserves the award for his outstanding services to humanity through the mobilisation of public opinion against terrorism and his tireless efforts towards a denuclearised world.
B. Rajasekaran,
* * * A proud moment indeed for Mr. Ram on bagging the prestigious award, the first for an Indian.
V. Govindarajan,
