Neglected issue

This refers to the editorial, `The virtues of fractionating blood,' (Nov. 8). Thanks for highlighting an important but neglected issue.

As you have pointed out, fractionation is expensive but setting up regional blood banks, which would serve a large number of hospitals, can save cost. The Indian Medical Association in Thrissur, Kerala, has set an example by setting up a blood bank (including with facilities for fractionation) with the support of citizens and the local government.

Similar attempts have been made in other cities too.
