Children's day out at health centre

Staff celebrate Children's Day with slew of colourful programmes

CHENNAI : The deity Murugan sat comfortably in his mother's lap clad in a bright yellow veshti and a glittering angavastram, munching biscuits.

Around him were comely maidens from Gujarat, policemen in khaki and a lone Tiruvalluvar.

It was a happening day at the Public Health Centre in West Mambalam, where the staff celebrated Children's Day by dressing up their children for a fancy dress contest on Monday.

Little Balaji Sundar took some time to warm up to his businessman act and fish out a mobile phone from his coat pocket.

Murugan went up to the stage and after a brief pause mumbled his name `Karthikeyan' into the mike.

The hour-long celebrations featured singing and dancing competitions.

Nursery rhyme

Harish Kannan recited a short nursery rhyme in his `Tiruvalluvar' getup while senior group members danced to racy film songs as well as showing off some neat bharatanatyam mudras.

"We celebrate Children's Day every year," said Sandhya Shyamkumar, head of paediatrics department.

Drawing competition

The PHC also held fancy dress, drawing and painting competitions for special children from BVSN Murthy School attached to it.

The best part? All participants were issued a certificate and gift.
