Gang raids grocery shop in Kurnool

Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: A gang 12 persons raided a wholesale grocery shop and assaulted two persons at Nandikotkur in Kurnool district on Tuesday.

The attack assumed importance as the raiders were alleged to be supporters of Congress leader Gouru Venkat Reddy, husband of Charita Reddy, MLA, and the shop was owned by the family of Epuru Sudhakar, who petitioned the Supreme Court against the remission granted by the Governor to Venkat Reddy.

According to reports, 12 persons reached the shop on bikes and parked the vehicles in front of it provoking a protest from shopkeepers. When attendant Masum Basha requested the men to remove the obstruction, they pounced on him and assaulted him. Later, miscreants entered the shop, closed the shutters and beat up Nagesh Prasad and ransacked the shop.
