Karnataka is the champion

VISAKHAPATNAM: Karnataka won the South Zone under-17 cricket tournament, beating holder Hyderabad by one wicket in an exciting finish of the round-robin match at the Ukku Stadium here on Tuesday. Andhra finished runner-up again.

Final points position: 1. Karnataka (15), 2. Andhra (10), 3. Hyderabad (8), 4. Tamil Nadu (8), 5. Goa (4), 6. Kerala (2).

The scores: Hyderabad 162 and 125 in 51.2 overs (Praneeth 52, Abrar Kazi four for 12, Sunil N. Raju three for 39) lost to Karnataka 180 and 108 for nine in 51 overs (Manish Pandey 32, N. Yuvraj Yadav five for 54, Lalit Mohan three for 40).

Tamil Nadu 369 for nine decl. bt Kerala 144 in 89.3 overs (Santu Jose 35, M. Rangarajan six for 40) and 182 in 61.5 overs (Santu Jose 56, K. Saawan four for 63). — Special Correspondent
