AGITATED: Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa being gheraoed in Kurnool on Tuesday.
KURNOOL: Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa was irked by the eviction of families from the open site in Ganesh Nagar by the police and revenue authorities on Monday. Scores of families, who had built huts in the open site created while approving the layout of a residential colony, were removed from the place by the police, revenue and municipal officials. The families, led by BC Association leaders, gathered at the General Hospital where the Minister inspected the children's ward on Tuesday and gheraoed him. The Minister sympathised with the families and expressed displeasure at the drastic step taken by Municipal Commissioner K. Venkateswarlu. The Minister told the official that it was the policy of the Government to provide house sites, houses and ration cards to the poor in the State. When the Collector told the Minister that open sites should not be assigned for the housing purpose, the Minister asked them not to disturb the families until alternative sites were provided to them.
