HYDERABAD: The Right to Information Act is aimed at empowering citizens to get access to Government data and ensuring transparency and accountability, said C.D. Arha, retired IAS officer, after being sworn-in as the State Chief Information Commissioner here on Tuesday. Talking to press persons at Raj Bhavan, Mr. Arha, who worked in the State in different capacities, promised to implement the Act effectively. He said assumption of office by him and two Information Commissioners--A. Subba Rao and K. Sudhakar Rao--was an important day for the State. Constitutionality of law in the State had been activated, with the three taking the oath administered by Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde.
To meet officials
Mr. Arha said he would shortly meet officials concerned for finalising the rules and guidelines for effective implementation of the Right to Information Act in the State. He sought the cooperation of the media in the discharge of duty. Chief Secretary T.K. Dewan, Ministers -- Mohd. Ali Shabbir, P. Lakshmaiah and Botcha Satyanarayana -- and Adviser to Chief Minister K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, were present.R. Dileep Reddy, journalist, who has been appointed Information Commissioner, could not be sworn in as he was stated to have missed the connecting flight from New Delhi.
