Amanjyot Singh in the van

KOLKATA: Amanjyot Singh carded three under 67 to lead the first day's action in the category A (15 to 17 years) of the Nokia Eastern India junior & sub-junior Open golf here at the par-70 Tollygunge Club course on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old from Jaipur negotiated the course well and weathered a bad start, that saw him bogey on the first hole, recording an eagle and two birdies later to get the best card of the day. Singh was followed by Rahul Bakshi of Chandigarh, who finished the first round at one-over 71, while local lad Surya Jai Prakash was third with three-over 74.

Bakshi had three birdies but spoiled the advantage scoring scored four bogeys.

Udayan Mane led category B (13-14 years), while Hemendra Chaudhary was ahead in Category C (11-12 Years).

Important scores:

Category A (15 - 17 yrs): 67 - Amanjyot Singh, 71 - Rahul Bakshi, 74 - Surya Jai Prakash.

Category B (13 -14 yrs): 75 - Udayan Mane, Madhav Soi, 77 - Abhijit Chadha.

Category C (11-12 yrs): 80 - Hemendra Choudhary, 81 - Gurmehar Singh Sethi, 83 - Ainesh Ahluwalia, Ashbeer Singh Saini. — Our Sports Reporter
