`M.P. Prakash cannot destabilise BJP in Bellary'

District unit president confident of the party's victory in zilla, taluk panchayat elections

BELLARY: Janardhan Reddy, president of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, accused Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash of attempting to destabilise the party in the district.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy said that unable to tolerate the rise and popularity of BJP in the district, Mr. Prakash was trying to destabilise the party through Anil Lad, Kudligi MLA. Mr. Lad had expressed his unhappiness against the party leadership and had said that he was being ignored.

`Misusing'

"One point is clear, Mr. Prakash is misusing Mr. Lad for his political survival. The BJP is gaining ground all over the district. People could not succeed in snatching away the control of the municipal administration from BJP.

"The party then created history by wresting the Bellary Lok Sabha seat from the Congress, besides winning three Assembly seats. Now out of fear that the BJP will gain majority in the ensuing elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats, Mr. Prakash is making efforts to destabilise the party. I am confident that Mr. Prakash will not succeed," he said.

Making it clear that he has no misunderstandings with Mr. Lad, Mr. Reddy said that he was ready to join hands with him (Mr. Lad) if he is keen on being actively involved in building the party.

Welcomed

He also welcomed Mr. Lad volunteering to do some social activities through his newly formed Anil Lad Fans' Association.

Not agreeing to the criticism that BJP and power was under one family control (his brother G. Karunakar Reddy is the MP and Somashekar Reddy is the Mayor of Bellary), Mr. Reddy said this only showed that the people had faith in the family.

The ensuing elections to the local bodies will also give a suitable answer to such criticism, as the BJP is sure to gain majority in the zilla and taluk panchayats.

Condemned

Mr. Reddy condemned the resolution adopted by the Belgaum Municipal Corporation regarding merger of Marathi-speaking areas with Maharashtra. While urging the State Government to initiate legal action to negate the resolution and supersede the corporation, Mr. Reddy said that it is unfair on the part of the Mayor to adopt an "anti-Karnataka" resolution. However, he opposed the attack on the Mayor stating that the Government could initiate stern action within the framework of law.

Yatra

In the wake of the election to the zilla and taluk Panchayats, the BJP will launch Suvarna Sandesh Jana Jagruti Yatra under the leadership of B. Sriramlu, Bellary MLA, and G. Karunakar Reddy, MP, he said.

The yatra will commence from Chellagurki, a pilgrim centre, on December 4 and conclude at Hadagali on December 16 after touching all the constituencies under the zilla and taluk panchayats.

Mayor Somashekar Reddy, and party leaders Ramalingappa, B. Shivaram Reddy, and S.J.V. Mahipal, were present on the occasion.
