Walk for a noble cause

NEW DELHI: Nehru Bal Samiti will organise a fund raising "Children's Walk for Nehru's Thoughts" at Children's Park near India Gate here on Wednesday.

The walk for a noble cause will see the participation of a Russian delegation comprising 25 members. On the occasion, the principal of the Hindi Broadcasting School No. 19 of Moscow, Melnik Tatyana, will be presented the Samiti's coveted Bal Mitra Award for her distinguished service for children and encouraging Indo-Russian cultural exchange programmes.

Appreciating the Samiti's one-week long creativity festival and "Children's Walk for Nehru's Thoughts", the chairperson of the National Advisory Council, Sonia Gandhi, in a message, said the Samiti has been working in the direction shown by the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who was committed to the development of young people of the country, so that they may become responsible, compassionate, disciplined and well-founded members of society.

"Obesity Week"

NEW DELHI: The Minimal Access Surgery Department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital will be organising an "Obesity Week" beginning November 21 to create awareness about the growing overweight problem in the city.

During the week, the focus will be on effective and detailed check-up of obese people, free consultations, counselling and free full body check-up through Body Composition Analyser, the latest machine installed at the Department, besides highlighting the problems related to obesity.

Philately exhibition

NEW DELHI: A district philately exhibition titled "DEEPEX-2005'' has been organised by the Department of Post and will be inaugurated at Arwachin Bharti Bhawan Senior Secondary School in Vivek Vihar this Thursday.

While a special cover will be issued on Arwachin School, the exhibition will showcase a rich stamp collections of eminent philatelists and students from different schools. Exhibits from National Philatelic Museum and Army Postal Services will also be on display.

Plan to train vascular surgeons

NEW DELHI: The Vascular Society of India (VSI), a national body of vascular surgeons, plans to train and familiarise practising vascular surgeons on minimally invasive endovascular surgery and to keep them updated on global medical trends in their field.

According to release issued here, at its recent annual meeting in Thiruvananthapuram, the society elected Lt.Col.K.M.Rai, Army Medical Corps as president; S.R.Subrammaniyan, Chief Vascular Surgeon, Vijaya Hospital, Chennai, as secretary; and T.Vidya Sagaran, Professor at Madurai Medical College, as treasurer.
