Joint Council's charge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Joint Council has charged the Government with trying to deny voting rights to many Government employees who are voters of the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency by putting them on Sabarimala duty. Its chairman M.N.V.G. Adiyodi said in a statement here on Tuesday that several employees of the Health Services, Police and the Fire and Rescue Services had been deputed for Sabarimala work.

He described the Government's action as deplorable. — Special Correspondent

Drugs seized from French national

Thiruvananthapuram: Personnel of the CISF at the International Airport here seized charas, hashish and ganja oil from a French national who arrived to board the SriLankan Airlines flight to Colombo on Tuesday. According to Customs officials 19.47 gm of charas, 3.32 gm of hashish and 3.96 gm of ganja oil were seized from Arnaud Bernard Eric Pierre, a resident of Nice, France.

Tatkal reservation

Thiruvananthapuram: Reservation through the Tatkal scheme is now available three days in advance.

According to a release from the Railways, the facility has come into effect. Till now, the advance reservation facility under Tatkal had been confined to one day. — Staff Reporter

Purchase committee meeting

KOCHI: The purchase committee for the proposed Smart City project will meet at the Collectorate Conference Hall at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The committee will hold discussions with landowners regarding acquisition of land for the project, according to District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish. — Staff Reporter

Kadavallur Anyonyam begins

Thrissur: The Kadavallur Anyonyam began at Kadavallur Sree Ramaswamy temple here on Tuesday. Thrissur and Tirunavaya are among the centres in the State where Rig Veda is traditionally taught. Anyonyam is the contest featuring Vedic scholars from these centres. The Anyonyan began on Tuesday evening with the Vedajna Varanam, in which the scholars were welcomed. — Staff Reporter

Awareness class

ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala Senior Citizens' Forum Alappuzha unit will organise an awareness class on `Geriatric Diseases and Preventative Measures' at Alappuzha Government Girls' High School Auditorium on November 20 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Jyothi Dev Keshava Dev, an expert on diabetes and geriatric medicine, will take the class, said MNV Nair, secretary of the forum. — Staff Reporter

Thrissur: Jose Vellur and P.M. Mukundan have been elected district president and secretary, respectively, of the Kerala Advertising Agencies' Association. The other office-bearers are Devan Nair (vice-president), T.B. Biju (joint secretary), Reji Chunkath (treasurer), Thomas Pavaratty, Raman Namboodiri, K.R. Unnikrishnan, Shanavas, Yahya Ashraf, P.
