Chennai:
Around 200 children walked on and off the stage in groups at the Music Academy, performing "The Jungle Play" directed by Mithran Devanesan and scripted by Anushka Ravishankar.
Potpourri
The occasion was Potpourri, Vidya Mandir Mylapore's golden jubilee celebrations.
Little Mowgli was clad in a saffron dhoti amid a group of children dressed up as a wolf pack and the discussion was about whether the man cub should be spared.
Applause
The dialogues received immediate applause in the packed auditorium.
One of them was a wolf telling the man cub, "You know that man cannot be trusted."
Apart from western instrumental music the play had a vibrant dose of Carnatic music.
The hall resonated with murmurs of "so cute" as the man cub played with the pack of wolves.
The jingle that followed was impressive: "jungle laws are firm and free, hunt when hungry and never hurt to satisfy your greed."
Packed with humour, the play marked an interesting beginning for events that will last till Friday.
The play was repeated on Children's Day, which also saw a concert by Sanjay Subramaniam.
