Coimbatore: Learning to balance the professional and personal sides of their lives was one of the main areas of interest for 50 women participants at a personality development workshop organised at the Avinashilingam Deemed University on Saturday. Sponsored by the British Council Division, British High Commission, New Delhi, the workshop, called Springboard, was organised by the Centre for Women's Studies of the University, as part of the efforts to promote gender equality and empowerment. Director of the Women's Centre K. C. Leelavathy told The Hindu that the University had deputed one of its faculty members, Pooja Sharma, to attend a preliminary "taster event" organised in July - August this year. Ms. Sharma had been selected for a "training for trainers" programme along with 11 others. These licensed trainers would conduct workshops for selected participants, with support from the British Council, in partnership with the Women Studies Network of Indian Universities and Madhya Pradesh Police. At the inaugural function, Ms. N. V. Sreejaya, Advocate (India) and Solicitor (England and Wales), said that women had the potential to achieve much by using motivation even in ordinary situations at home.
