Award for journalist

Tunis (Tunisia): A journalist with The Hindu Businessline has received a global media award at the U.N. Sponsored World Summit on the Information Society. Vipin V. Nair, Kochi based Principal Correspondent for Businessline received the Media Award for 2005 given by the London-based Panos Institute, a development news resource, and the Global Knowledge Project (GKP), an international networking agency, for his April 2005 feature story in the paper "Waiting to Fly" which dealt with funding challenges of the Kerala e-literacy programme.

The $1000 award was also given to Nigeria-based Segun Oruame and Fred O Mudhai from Kenya for incisive reporting on Information Society initiatives.

The award for 2004 also given on Tuesday was won by Singapore-based Amit Jain for his story "Coup in The Ballot Box" published by Sunday Standard (in Kenya) and two other journalists from the Philippines (Rene Expeleta Bartolo) and Vietnam (Tran Le Thuy).
