Fishermen oppose VUDA notification

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakha Zilla Sampradaya Matsyakarula Samakya has opposed the issue of a notification by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority for widening of the Bheemunipatnam Beach Road between 6th km. and 9th km. points in violation of the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.

The High Court in its judgment in 2003 had noted that the report of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) and guidelines of the MoEF have to be complied with in the execution of the road widening programme, the Samakya convenor Vasupalli Danayya has said in a statement.

The court had permitted VUDA to take up widening only in CRZ-III but the latter had called tenders for taking up the works in CRZ-I and in the `no-development zone', he has said and called for either postponement or cancellation of the tender process, failing which the federation would be forced to approach the court again.
