Auto drivers threaten stir from Nov. 21

Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: The Autorickshaw Drivers Struggle Committee has threatened to go on indefinite strike from November 21 midnight in protest against the Government's adamant attitude towards effecting a reasonable hike in auto fares. "Government has forgotten its commitment. Moreover, it does not have a concern or perspective on the issue of school autorickshaws. We have no alternative but to launch a do or die agitation," said struggle committee members, Mohd. Amanullah Khan and B. Venkatesham.

They said the Government assured to consider the autorickshaw drivers problems after the municipal elections on October 4. But nothing was done so far. The Government was playing a cruel joke by increasing sales tax on petrol and at the same time not effecting a rise in fares, they said.
