Power shutdown

Power supply to the following places will not be available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on November 16 due to maintenance works at Perumanallur Sub-station sub-station: Perumanallur, Valasupalayam, Kanakkampalayam, Kalipalayam, Kandampalayam, Ayyampalayam, Puthupalayam, Andipalayam, Sadayampathi, Neruperichal, Pandian Nagar, Vavipalayam, M.Thottipalayam, Thoravalur and Merkupathy.

There will be no power supply to the following places on November 17 due to the maintenance works at Seeranaickenpalayam sub-station:

Seeranaickenpalayam and surrounding areas, P.N Pudur, Vadavalli, Maruthamalai, Vedapatti, Veerakeralam, Selvapuram, Velandipalayam, Saibaba Colony, R.S Puram, Bazaar Street 33 Division and Ponnaiah Rajapuram.

Life term for killing wife

The Principal District Sessions judge, A. Rathnavelu, on Tuesday awarded life term for a man on the charge of killing wife by pouring sulphuric acid on her suspecting her fidelity. According to the police, Afsal Khan (40) poured sulphuric acid on wife Daheera Banu (30) at their residence in Rathinapuri on October 11, 2004.

The couple is said to have differences of opinion and the accused had suspicions about the fidelity of the victim. '

The victim who suffered injuries breathed her last on November 15, 2004.

The couple had a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy.

The judge found Afsal Khan to be guilty of the offence under section 302 of Indian Penal Code.

He has to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000 too. In case of default in payment of the fine, the accused have to undergo another six months of rigorous imprisonment, the judge said.

The trial period has been set off against conviction under section 428 of CrPC.
