Learn villupattu from master musician
Vani Doraisamy
Chennai:
It's one of the oldest surviving Tamil folk art forms and he is its best-known practitioners.
Villupattu is almost synonymous with Subbu Arumugam. Now, you can learn the art of telling a story through a song of the bow right from the master at a workshop to be organised by the National Folklore Support Centre in collaboration with the Ekalaivan Villupaatu Centre.
The five-day workshop starts on November 21 and one of the aims is to use the art for information dissemination.
Training will involve story-telling, demonstration of instruments, screening of films on villupattu and narrative techniques, culminating in a performance by the participants along with the Ekalaivan troupe.
All you need is the ability to sing.
Participation is on first come first served basis.
