Vasan criticises "slack" distribution of flood relief

Special Correspondent

Relief measures `should rise above politics'

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president G.K. Vasan on Wednesday criticised the "slack" distribution of flood relief to the affected in the State.

Stating that his party had sought adequate compensation for those who had suffered losses, he said relief measures should rise above politics.

Referring to the visit by a Central team to assess the flood damage, he told presspersons here on Wednesday that the Centre would work to provide relief to all the affected.

Mr. Vasan attributed the floods along the Cauvery to sudden release of water by Karnataka. It could have been avoided with better water management.

About the new schemes announced by the AIADMK Government, Mr. Vasan said just months were left for the polls and, therefore, these would not make an impact. The people knew that the Government had failed to do much for the State's progress.
