JAIPUR: Four persons collecting red concrete in a stone quarry at Ladnu in Nagaur district of Rajasthan were killed early this week when a huge mound of sand and stones caved in and buried them. The victims included a 22-year-old youth, who was to get married on November 27. The four persons had gone to the quarry at Kasan Road near Ladnu to collect red concrete for decoration at the marriage ceremony. Salim Khan -- the prospective bridegroom -- was driving the tractor to carry his three friends inside the quarry. The stones caved in apparently by the impact of digging. The three friends of Salim, who died along with him on the spot, were Raju Khan, Munna Khan, and the ex-Army personnel, Mumtaz Khan. All of them belonged to the Kayamkhani Muslim community. While Raju Khan was to go abroad next week, Mumtaz Khan had retired from the Army recently and has left behind a child of three months. Munna Khan was the sole bread earner in his family/ The district administration swung into action on getting the information of the accident and excavated the bodies by late evening. However, the next of kin of the deceased are still waiting for announcement of ex-gratia financial assistance by the State Government.
Two drown
Two villagers were drowned today while taking a bath in the Shipra river here in Ujjain, police said. Devkaran (18) and Jitendra (16) had come to visit a fair and gone to take bath in early hours. The corpses were fished out.
