Six policemen promoted

NEW DELHI: Six policemen were promoted out of turn and a dozen others rewarded with incentives for their exceptional display of courage while arresting notorious criminals.

Head Constable

Ram Kumar and Constable Laxmi Narain, posted with the Connaught Place police station, were promoted for catching Sonu and Rajkumar, while they were trying to flee after allegedly snatching

the gold chain of a woman near Janpath.

Constable Rajender Singh with the Special Branch was promoted for his role in eliminating a gangster, Sandeep Deswal, at Vasant Kunj in South-West Delhi on May 27.

According to the police, Constables Dilawar,

Veer Pal and Om Prakash were awarded out-of-turn promotion for arresting Sansar Chand, the most notorious poacher in the country.

Those who were awarded Asadharan Karya Puraskar are Sub-Inspector Ravinder Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswinder Singh, Head Constable

Ram Niwas and Constables Dharambir Singh, Ieed Mohammad, Surender and Vinay. The cash rewards of Rs. 3,000 went to Constables Jaiprakash, Sunil, Jagmohan and Gajender Singh.

Traffic police pavilion

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, on Wednesday inaugurated the traffic police pavilion at Pragati Maidan.

Praising the traffic police for having employed a multi-pronged strategy to increase awareness among commuters about the road safety measures and traffic rules, Mr. Joshi emphasised the need to include road safety education in the school curriculum.

Among those present on the occasion were Police Commissioner K.K. Paul, Special Commissioners, U.K. Katna and Y.S. Dadwal, and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Qamar Ahmed.

Inter-DPS debate competition

NEW DELHI: Delhi Public School, Rohini, hosted the second "National Inter-DPS Debate Competition" at its premises here recently. Nine zonal finalists of DPS schools from across the country voiced their thoughts on the topic "Success is not a matter of chance".

After lighting the traditional lamp, the debate was

declared open by the Chairman of DPS Society, Narendra Kumar.

Nehru Brigade

NEW DELHI: Celebrating the birth anniversary of country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in a unique way, volunteers of Nehru Brigade undertook a weeklong fund generating campaign in the Capital on Monday for rehabilitation of the earthquake victims of Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the leadership of its chief organiser Ramesh Dutta, the volunteers have been visiting every house in the city collecting money and other relief material.
