Railway guards, loco drivers stage dharna in city

CHENNAI: Guards and locomotive drivers owing allegiance to All-India Loco Running Staff Association and All-India Guards' Council staged a dharna in front of the General Manager's Office, here on Wednesday protesting the recommendations of the running allowance committee.

The agitating guards and drivers said if the committee's recommendations were implemented then it would lead to reduction of pay and kilometre allowance, besides increasing the work pressure. The dharna, they said, was part of the all-India stir planned by the association and the council.

In the next phase a joint conventions would be held in New Delhi on November 29, followed by march to Parliament on November 30.
