NEW DELHI: Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran said on Wednesday that India was engaged with all actors in Nepal and it welcomes the assurance given by King Gyanendra to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during their recent meeting in Dhaka. Releasing a book, The Royal Nepal Army: Meeting the Maoist Challenge, written by Ashok K. Mehta, he said: "The Prime Minister told the King that he needs to look at political parties as allies. The King said he believes in multi-party democracy and that cannot be without political party involvement. The King said he thought a road map was needed and added that in the coming days we will get to see something of it." The stakes for India in Nepal is very high and if the monarchy wishes, New Delhi could play a constructive role. "But it will not be able to do it if it is seen to participate in the pell-mell. We can't micro-manage the events in Nepal. But if we can nudge it towards political stability and economic recovery, we should be happy," Mr. Saran said.
