NEW DELHI: Four persons were rounded up on Wednesday on charges of selling cosmetics fraudulently in the name of a renowned U.S.-based firm at the ongoing Indian International Trade Fair here at Pragati Maidan. A hunt has been launched for their employer. It is learnt that Vijay Arora, a visitor to the IITF, went to the Hall No. 3 of Pragati Maidan where he came across a stall of a cosmetics firm named Jolen. Taking it to be the famous U.S.-based company, Vijay bought a product, though at a relatively lower price. Mr. Arora then went to Hall No. 4 and was surprised to find another stall bearing the board of Jolen Inc.,USA. He inquired from the stall attendants whether the multi-national company had taken another stall in Hall No. 3. They claimed they were the sole supplier of Jolen products in the country, at which Mr. Arora took them to the Hall No. 3 stall. Realising that the stall owner was selling cosmetics products by illegally using the name of Jolen Inc., U.S.A., the employees of the original firm informed their employer, Pradeep Garg. Subsequently, the police were informed. The owner of the Jolen Inc., which had its stall in Hall No. 4, showed papers to the police to clarify that they were the authorised dealers of Jolen products and that they had obtained court orders prohibiting the use of the company's name by any other firm into cosmetics business, a public notice regarding which had been issued by the authorised dealers. In a prompt action, the New Delhi police rounded up the four employees of the alleged fake Jolen firm. They were identified as Amit Bhasin, the field manager, and the staffers, Sujat Ali, Sanjay and Magan Lal. While a case of cheating is being registered against the company owner on the basis of the complaint lodged by Mr. Arora, the police would also add the provisions under the Copyrights Act considering a separate complaint lodged by Mr. Garg. The police were trying to trace the owner of the "fraudulent" cosmetics firm.
