"Govt. disregarding public interest''

NEW DELHI: The president of Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Harsh Vardhan, has charged that the Delhi Government under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit has only put additional financial burden on the people of Delhi over the past seven years while completely overlooking its commitment made in the manifesto for securing full Statehood for Delhi and regularising all the unauthorised colonies.

Youth arrested for eve-teasing

NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old resident of Timarpur who allegedly misbehaved with a Delhi University student from the North-East was arrested on Wednesday. Although no case was reported on Tuesday, the incident led to protests by students from the North-east on Wednesday, resulting in the lodging of a report and the arrest of the accused Shyam.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening when the girl had gone to the Gandhi Vihar market accompanied by her brother and friend. The boy reportedly misbehaved with the girl, who raised an alarm.

The incident sparked off angry protests by students from the North East, as most of them reside in the Timarpur area. A case has been registered under section 354 of the IPC on Wednesday.

Assault bid

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old son of a school guard was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly trying to assault a Class V student of a Nand Nagri school his father was working in.

According to the police, Sanjay had joined his father -- a chowkidaar in the school -- on duty on Wednesday morning as he was unwell. On spotting a Class V girl roaming alone, Sanjay reportedly lured her into accompanying him to an isolated room and tried to assault her.

But when the girl tried to raise an alarm, Sanjay threatened her and left.

The girl, however, narrated the incident to her mother during the lunch break, following which a complaint was lodged with the police.

Woman found hanging

NEW DELHI: Unable to bear the regular demand for dowry from her husband and his family, a 22-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of her Sultanpuri house on Wednesday morning. A case of dowry death has been registered following an SDM enquiry.

The deceased Nirmala was married around nine months ago to Subhash, a grocery shop owner and lived with the family in their Baljeet Vihar residence. Her death was reported to the police by the family which claimed to have discovered the body hanging from the ceiling fan in her room in the morning.

According to the police, Nirmala's parents revealed that she was being constantly pestered for dowry
