GULBARGA: The district unit of Kannada Sainya on Thursday threatened to block all vehicles, particularly buses owned by the Maharashtra Road Transport, Corporation and milk vans, coming from Maharashtra if the State Government does not arrest and initiate criminal proceedings against members of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) who indulged in violence in Belgaum and damaged nameplates in Kannada as a sequel to the attack on Belgaum Mayor Vijay P. More in Bangalore a few days ago. Somnath Kattimani, president of the organisation's district unit, told presspersons here that the State Government should withdraw all cases registered against the volunteers of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike arrested in connection with the attack on the Belgaum Mayor, and release them from judicial custody unconditionally. Mr. Kattimani blamed the State Government for the border row and said the Belgaum Mayor should be arrested and externed from the State for passing an "anti-Karnataka and anti-Kannada" resolution. He said the sainya will fully support the bandh call given by Kannada organisations in the State on November 24.
Meeting
A meeting of Kannada organisations has been convened on November 21 in Gulbarga city to finalise the action plan for observing a total bandh in the district, he added. He urged the Government to implement the recommendations of a committee headed by writer Baragur Ramachandrappa on improving the conditions in border areas.
