BELLARY: Night soil scavenging is still in vogue in Hutti Gold Mines in Raichur district. This revelation was made by Santosh Chowdhary, Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karmacharis. Ms. Chowdhary, who was on a visit to Hyderabad, visited the mines following complaints in this regard and also with regard to improper implementation of schemes for the rehabilitation of safai karmacharis. Ms. Chowdhary told presspersons here on Wednesday that she had pulled up the Managing Director of Hutti Gold Mines and directed him to take steps to prevent scavenging. She said the official promised to take steps to put an end to the practice. Ms. Chowdhary said Rs. 1.7 crores is being utilised for the rehabilitation of safai karmacharis.
