NOT TO MISS: Cricket star Anil Kumble signing autographs for the SOS Children from Villages of India at a function organised by Brooke Bond in New Delhi on Thursday. PHOTO: Rajeev Bhatt
Cricketer Anil Kumble has decided to use his celebrity status to bring some joy into the lives of underprivileged children by becoming the goodwill ambassador of SOS Children's Villages of India. At a press conference here on Thursday, the ace bowler also promised to make himself available to travel wherever the 37 SOS Children's Villages are located across the country. Anil conceded that he was not aware about the good work being done by non-political organisation to alleviate the suffering of unfortunate children. "I received an opportunity to visit SOS Children's Village in Bangalore last month. I never knew that children's home was situated in such a wonderful location, surrounded by greenery and filled with well-structured homes. As it was the Dusshera festival that day, I was overjoyed to see children belonging to Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities jointly celebrating the festival together," said Anil. Anil also extended full support to "Har Dil Mein Smile" campaign launched by Brooke Bond in a tie-up with the non-political organisation to generate funds for the underprivileged children. He also handed over cheques to 14 schools in Delhi and neighbouring Gurgaon and urged corporate houses and non-government organisations to do everything possible to generate resources to provide children the basic infrastructure needed in an educational institute.
