Shishir, Likitha win titles in contrasting styles

Mysore: Unseeded Shishir Patil and top-seeded Likitha Devaraj, both from Karnataka, registered contrasting wins to clinch the boys' and girls' titles respectively in the AITA Talent Series tournament, conducted by MTC at its courts here on Thursday.

While Shishir had a tough time before prevailing against Statemate Dhruv Sundar 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2, Likitha breezed past Prarthana Prathap 6-0, 6-1. The 18-year-old Shishir of KIMS Tennis Academy came back after losing a close first set tie-breaker. Shishir kept his cool to win the next two sets with ease, playing well from the baseline and also making some good volleys.

Likitha, who is 13 years old and a product of the R. Nagaraj Tennis Centre (Mysore), dominated the contest throughout.

The results:

Boys under-18 singles: Final: Shishir Patil (Kar) bt Dhruv Sundar (Kar) 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2.

Semifinals: Shishir bt Jagadeesan Kumar (Kar) 6-0, 6-3; Dhruv bt Amulya Chandra (Kar) 6-0, 6-0.

Boys under-18 doubles (semifinals): Yesh Bafna/Suraj B. (Kar) bt Vibhav M. Iyengar/M.D. Shreyas (Kar) 7-6(2), 4-0, concd.; Shishir Patil/Dhruv Sundar (Kar) bt Parth Indrodhaya/Vishesh Bhatia (Guj) 6-4, 6-4.

Girls under-18 singles: Final: Likitha Devaraj (Kar) bt Prerana Prathap (Kar) 6-0, 6-1.
