Hanoi: Windy condition on a tough golf course took its toll as Mukesh Kumar alone came back with a par round of 72 among the ten Indians in the opening round of the Carlsberg Masters 2005. Mukesh, who was two-under after 15, double bogeyed the 16th and slipped from top five towards the end of his round. The leader was Malaysia's Danny Chia who enjoyed a fiery run as he carried the first round with a six-under-par 66 today. The 33-year-old Chia also eagled the par four third hole at the par 72 Chi Linh Star Golf and Country Club. England's Chris Rodgers was a stroke off the pace in the USD 200,000 Asian Tour event. Mukesh birdied the first and sixth holes and parred the rest till 15th, but then came the double bogey that spoilt his day. Harmeet Kahlon opened with a double bogey on first and recovered partially with birdie on third. He again birdied the 14th and 15th, but bogeys on 13th and 16th neutralised them for a day's work of 73 in 30th place.
Gurbaaz Mann had an eagle two on fifth and three other birdies, but in his roller coaster round he also had four bogeys, a double bogey on 12th and a triple bogey eight on par-five ninth hole. He was tied 59th at four-over 76. Arjun Singh and Digvijay Singh were also at 76 each.
